Quaker City Mercantile has launched another company-owned lifestyle brand, Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction. Like we did with our other incredibly successful in-house brand Sailor Jerry, we plan on making Art in the Age grow exponentially without the use of traditional advertising at all. Through our savvy viral music and arts efforts on the web and on the street, we aim to prove once again that Quaker City Mercantile knows best when it comes to innovative, guerilla brand building.

Art in the Age is aimed at restoring meaning to the arts and skilled crafts, promoting knowledgeable, sustainable consumption and bringing engaging, intellectual, original artwork into everyday life for all to experience. Art in the Age also seeks to support emerging fine artists, folk artists, artisans, and musicians from all walks of creativity. The brand takes its name and its philosophical foundation from the famous 1936 essay "Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction" by the late philosopher and visual critic Walter Benjamin.

Art in the Age offers a curated selection of artisan lifestyle goods including artist t-shirts, eco-friendly clothing and accessories, Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, edible goods from local farmers, rare art, design and philosophical literature, and limited-edition, letterpressed stationary.

We've designed and opened a flagship store in Philadelphia's historic Old City that features a gallery space for emerging artists and musicians, and an impressive e-commerce website that includes a popular blog covering everything from Art in the Age's world.

Quaker City Mercantile has also set out to develop the Art in the Age brand through the introduction of a proprietary spirit that is inline with the brand's values. ROOT is a certified organic spirit that references colonial liqueurs the likes of which haven't been produced anywhere in the world for more than a century.

And finally, in order to further Art In The Age's mission of restoring meaning to the arts and skilled crafts and promoting knowledgeable consumption, the brand has acquired a working farm in New Hampshire. At Great Hill Farm, Art in the Age will actively explore agricultural enterprise. Potential projects range from the micro-distillation of spirits with organic ingredients grown on the farm, to establishing partnerships with local farmers and craftsmen in the production of body care products, artisanal cheeses and textiles. These products will be made available for purchase at the Art In The Age Storefront and gallery, as well as online.
