TAMWORTH LYCEUM NOW OPEN IN OLD REMICK STORE

Downtown Tamworth waited for some time for something to happen in the Remick Store building. On July 4th, just after the parade, hometown celebrity George Cleveland, Selectmen Willie Farnum & Bob Abraham, and Lyceum owner Steve Grasse, cut the ribbon on the Lyceum. Now that the place has been open for a while and is settling into its rhythms, we spoke to manager Jamie Oakes about what one will find inside and what to expect in the future.

Tropical Storem Irene passed through on Sunday causing severe flooding in many parts of New Hampshire. Damage to the immediate Tamworth area was limited to some localized outages caused by falling tree limbs and temporary road closures. Nearby towns including Conway and Bartlett, sustained more severe damage and inconvenience to residents.

What price preservation? Planned razing of Pines Lodge and Tamworth Inn strikes a nerve among preservationists

Preservation has been in the news in Mount Washington Valley this week, centered on plans to raze two local landmarks.

The first property is the Pines Lodge and Motel, the oldest of which once served as turn-of-the-century lodging quarters for workers of the Redstone Quarry.
The second property slated to be razed is the Tamworth Inn, which was purchased April 29 by Steven Grasse of Philadelphia and Tamworth.
News stories in The Conway Daily Sun over the past week about the two properties prompted discussions on this paper's Facebook site and on the Tamworth Exchange electronic community page.

Tamworth Inn 'too far gone' to save

TAMWORTH — Long a landmark in the village, the Tamworth Inn has been sold and now awaits the wrecking ball.
Plans for the site are not yet set in stone, but could include a distillery, notes the new buyer, Philadelphia ad agency executive and part-time Tamworth resident Steven Grasse, 46.
Owner of Quaker City Mercantile of Philadelphia, Grasse is also a marketeer of alcoholic spirits, including of a liqueur known as Root. Grasse also owns shares in the Narrgansett Brewing Company of Rhode Island.
